Sketches #1

I've been slowly ridding myself of excess paper and posessions in general, meaning I've been digitising a lot of things lately so I can throw the originals away.

In lieu of actually posting any new ideas, sketches or other musings to this scrapbook, here's from sketches from about five years ago... the second was me trying to work out the stylistic differences between the two artifical intelligence characters in a game idea I had. Still may yet make that game one day... although it's more likely to become a Choose Your Own Adventure style text adventure on the web, I think.

I was obsessing over making organic shapes by using stripes to help me understand contours and distance at this point. I don't sketch much, I'm better with words than pictures. But I had fun creating these... sometimes I just drew things Mister Squiggle style - draw a few lines and then decide what it is later. The penultimate picture is one of those, doodled alongside a very cheesy supernatural tale about a monk who goes into a meditation room to find it has been possessed by some kind of ancient spheroid...energy...thing... I never did get around to working out what exactly it was.

I absolutely love looking at the rudimentary sketches other people have made, and this scrapbook seems as good a place as any to document some of them...
